Innovation Center

Activities in the Innovation Center continue to move forward as more stations are being added, and more students are becoming involved. Kindergarten and first grade students are now utilizing some of the more age appropriate stations such as LEGOs, art/origami, toy magnetic building kits, and a space building set (think space-themed Tinker Toys). In addition, middle school students that have classes in the media center were recently given the opportunity to participate in all of the stations that grades 2-5 have been using all year. A new station available to all age groups are augmented reality books. These are books that use iPads and apps to make books come to life. Students can scan codes in different books and see things such as dinosaurs and other predators walk across the room, see planets rotating in their orbits, see a model of the human brain, observe how robots are made and operate, watch a tornado hover over their desk, and many other exciting things related to the books. The students have been extremely engaged in these books, as well as the other stations, and cannot wait to return to the Innovation Center to become engaged in a different station.

New, to the media center this year, are Innovation Center stations for elementary students in grades 2-5. What is an Innovation Center, and what are Innovation Center stations?
