ALSTV, Antwerp Local School’s unique broadcast journalism and video production program, is
unlike any other in the area. Every day, ALSTV students produce a live morning
broadcast called Archers Live in a professional studio. Archers Live airs to the
entire school district and community through the
ALSTV Archers Live YouTube
channel. These broadcasts include school announcements and information, student
achievements and recognitions, interview clips, feature videos, and more.
ALSTV students include those involved with Student
Technology Services (STS) and those enrolled in the broadcast journalism class.
Through the broadcast journalism class, students develop important 21st Century
skills in an authentic learning environment as they create content for and
anchor Archers Live. Through this process and direct instruction, students learn
the basics of journalism, broadcast terminology, news writing
skills, interviewing skills, videography, and video editing.
Students also become proficient users of broadcast production equipment, DSLR cameras,
and Adobe Premiere. In addition, broadcast journalism students
participate in field experiences in the community, visit real-world media
production facilities, attend journalism workshops and conventions, and have
the opportunity to compete in state and national contests.
